Here are the tips from our laser hair removal experts at DermaSpa!

How to prepare your skin the week before/after your treatment:

-       avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 1 week prior to your treatment

-       apply SPF30+ daily and reapply every 2 hours while in the sun

-       do not use self tanners

-       no waxing, threading or chemical depilation in treatment area for 1-4 weeks prior to your laser hair removal

How to prepare 3 days before/after your treatment:

-       the only skin products that should be used are a gentle cleanser & sunscreen

-       stop all skin treatments with active ingredients including Clenziderm,

Retin-A, glycolic acid, salicylic acid or any other skin irritants

-       cleanly shave the area to be treated the night before your treatment (many of our clients are concerned this will increase hair growth - it will not!  It is important to shave carefully so as to avoid skin irritation.  It is important to shave rather than wax, thread or use a chemical depilatory treatment such as Nair, as the root of the hair NEEDS to be present for the laser to treat it!)

-       Please do not wear makeup on the area to be treated. If you do, we will ask you remove your makeup prior to treatment.

What to expect on your day of treatment:

-       The length of your treatment will depend on the area to be treated.

-       Prior to your treatment you will be given a consent form to review and sign

-       You will then be directed to your treatment room

  1. Our medical esthetician will ensure you are comfortable – we customize your treatment to your skin type and your needs
  2. You will lie down on our comfortable treatment bed
  3. For treatment of body areas you will be provided with a cover to respect your modesty
  4. Goggles will be placed on your eyes for your protection
  5. This treatment is tolerated well by most and does not require any anesthetic
  6. Ultrasound gel will be applied to the area and you will feel warm pinches as the laser is pulsed over the treatment area.
  7. Once the treatment is completed, your skin will be cooled with cold compresses and a soothing SPF will be applied

-       You can expect your skin to be slightly pink after the treatment (this typically resolves within 1-2hrs but may last up to 24-48 hours)

-       A mineral powder may be applied right after the treatment for a flawless finish. Please ask if you would like this complimentary treatment!

-       Normal activities may be resumed but please avoid exposure to sun and heat

-       You will be provided with instructions on skin care after treatment

This is a brief summary of how to take care of your skin prior to and after your laser hair removal treatment, and what to expect during your treatment.  If you have any questions or would like to book a complimentary consultation to see if our laser hair removal treatment is right for you - contact us.
